But this fall, as Ive been traveling coast to coast speaking at companies, conferences, and Universities, Ive really tried to step up my presentation game.As a formerly fashion-agnostic person, Ive learned in recent years that dressing the part is part of giving a great presentation. I believe when you dress well, you perform well. When youre rushing in the morning to get dressed, you dont take the time to present yourself well. That can leave you feeling scattered mentally and even having a negative or fixed mindset for the day. I plan my outfits for work at least a day before based on the weather and my plans for the day. When you feel comfortable in what you wear, you exude confidence.EA Fall makes me think about fluctuating temperatures, which require outfits that work from a chilly morning commute to a hot afternoon to an over-air conditioned office. How do you recommend we layer up in a way that works?TI A great blazer or cardigan sweater will work. Wear it in the morning for your commute and fold it up in your work bag for the afternoon. Look for wrinkle-free fabrics that can sus tain being folded. I love wearing three-quarter length shirts, my arms are covered for the cold temps in the morning and can keep me warm in the cold office, but it is not too hot when the temps are in the low 80s in the afternoon.EA How do you recommend we combine higher price items with budget-friendlier items to look polished without overspending?TI I always suggest investing in the items that you wear the most. A great pair of shoes and bag can elevate any look. Think about price per wear for each item that you buy, DONT splurge on an item that you will only wear once or only in one season out of the year. If you want to indulge in seasonal trends, head to stores like Target or HM to purchase it. They have items that are on trend where you can get the look for lessEA What fall trends are you incorporating into your office attire this season?TI I am in LOVE with plaid this season Its such a classic look Purchasing a plaid blazer, pants, or even a scarf can help you incorporate th is timeless trend into your office attire. Because this look is on trend this season you can find it anywhere from Forever 21, Old Navy, or even JCPenney.EA What are some classic fall pieces you think every boss woman should invest in?TI Every boss woman needs a great trench coat. Its getting cold sooner than we think and this classic item will last you year after year. A great fitting blazer in a classic color (black, navy, or gray) is a good staple, too. And in the fall, I look closely at my shoe collection. It might be time to redistribution policy your work flats and heels (they may look a little worn from the spring/ summer months). Also look at your essential items, purchasing more blouses/tops that can be paired with skirts/pants can maximize your closet.EA What are your best money-saving tips for always looking good without breaking the bank?TI SHOP YOUR OWN CLOSET We all have clothes. Look at what you wore last fall. If it still fits well, keep it No need to buy things you already have. Make a list of items you need. Throughout the application process, there are several seemingly small points of contact that occur between a company and an applicant. Its important to keep in mind that each of those points of contact helps an organization decide whether or not you are a good fit.Heres what NOT to do while job searchingDo not stalk the hiring manager.You found a job listing that is tailor-made just for you. In your zealousness to connect with the hiring manager, you email and call the personrepeatedly. But theres a fine line between being eager and a borderline stalker. If youre not getting responses to your communications, limit yourself to three or four calls or emails in a two-month time frame. If you do get a response, read it carefully. Is it encouraging further check-ins? If a person says they will reach out to you, its best to continue your job search.Dont ask about compensation too soon.It would be awesome if every job description included salary and benefits info. Unfortunately, very few do. And while that information can certainly be a deciding factor as to whether a job could be a financial fit for you, you shouldnt ask about compensation too quickly. Wait until youve gone through at least two rounds of job interviews before broaching the topic. Remember, your focus should be on explaining what you have to offer the company, not what theyre going to pay a potential employee.Dont get defensive or argumentative.One of the biggest complaints among job seekers is not hearing back from a company after an interview. So if a company is willing to take the time to send you a musiknote letting you know that you were not selected for a job, accept it graciously. Its even fine to ask if there is any feedback they could give you to help you be a better job seeker. Even if y oure upset that you didnt get the job, try to keep your cool and avoid getting defensive. Telling the recruiter theyre wrong, or trying to go over that persons head isnt going to win you any brownie points or cause you to be reconsidered for the job.Dont make simple mistakes.It can be really hard to see your own mistakes sometimes. Thats why you should read (and reread) any parts of your job application before submitting it, like your cover letter, resume, or any corresponding emails. If youve read through your own work so often the letters are swirling together, ask another person to proofread it for you.As for the actual job interview, dont be late. Even a few minutes could be counted against you and docked from your interview time. And make sure that you dont dress inappropriately for the interview depending on the field and position youre applying for, a suit or casual geschftliches miteinander dress will usually do just fine.Dont forget to read everything.From the job descripti on to emails with a potential boss, its important to read all correspondence relating to your job interview carefully. You have to actively seek out potential job opportunities wherever you can find them. Look to company websites, alumni networks, and LinkedIn for your job search resources.
